Journal of Geophysical Research: Biogeosciences, 121, 2667โ€“2683. This paper conducted an interesting numerical experiment to investigate changes in SMC and Carbon & Water fluxes by vegetation mixing. This vegetation mixing was represented by adjusting PFT cover ratios of grid in the JULES model. Results show that NPP and LE flux were increased and SMC was decreased, especially during drought period.

NSC is important for tree plants because it acts as an physiological insurance budget for them. I expected that this paper would be organized as a chapter about NSC in a textbook and I can get basic knowledge about NSC. Although this paper is not organized as I expected, it provides well-summarized review about NSC related research results which contain interesting knowledge about NSC.
